For one week, from January 18 to 26, 2025, we celebrate cinema and 15 years of JIIFF in José Ignacio. The festival, which emerged as a shared dream, celebrated 15 editions thanks to passionate and courageous people, eager to talk, debate and surrender to the unknown.
This year we program feature films in competition and also out of competition. One of the milestones of the week was marked by the arrival of the director Jacques Audiard and the actress Karla Sofía Gascón to present Emilia Pérez in the Bajada de los Pescadores out of competition before almost 3 thousand people. In addition to them, we received a visit from the Italian director Maura Delpero and the Argentine actor and producer Santiago Fondevila, who presented Vermiglio in a special performance to a full house at Pavilion VIK. Before the end of the week, we welcomed the Uruguayan director Pablo Stoll and his return to cinema with the film The Summer Theme, which was presented at JIIFF days before its official premiere in local theaters.
In parallel, our Short Film Competition, organized in alliance with Fundación Diciembre, selected and screened eight Uruguayan films that demonstrate the increasingly firm positioning of this competitive section.
During JIIFF week, Working JIIFF, our industry space, was also held, for which we received visits from more than 50 directors, producers and scriptwriters of different nationalities. In this context, this year the Pfeffer Fund of the South was awarded for the first time with an endowment of $50,000 dollars thanks to the Pfeffer family to promote the development and co-production of fiction feature films in Latin America.
In parallel with the industry functions and activities, the little ones had their space in ¡Corte! our film workshop for boys and girls between 8 and 18 years old.
Thank you for sharing with us this dream we call JIIFF. Until the next edition.
Thanks to the Pfeffer family, $50,000 was awarded to the project Morir de pie (Chile) by Giancarlo Nasi and María Paz González. The duo was one of the eight selected among 116 applications from all over Latin America that participated in the project development laboratory, JIIFF Lab, of Working JIIFF, our industry space. The jury was made up of Victoria Alonso, Nicolás Celis and Renata de Almeida.
MORE INFORMATIONIn the N15 edition of JIIFF we programmed feature films in competition and also out of competition that were premieres for Uruguay. Like every year, the winning film was chosen by viewers, who chose The Kingdom by director Julien Colonna. JIIFF films were screened at three José Ignacio locations: Bajada de los Pescadores, Bodega Oceánica José Ignacio and Pavilion VIK.
MORE INFORMATIONIn the 2025 edition, eight short films were selected and screened in a special screening on Friday, January 24 at 5 p.m. at Pavilion VIK with the presence of their respective teams. This is a unique opportunity for directors, producers and the teams of each short film to experience the local premiere of their films firsthand, and for viewers to meet the local producers and filmmakers who will continue to build Uruguayan cinema.
