¡CORTE!

The JIIFF film workshop where we shot a short film in a week.

¡CORTE!

Introduction

¡CORTE! is a film workshop for boys and girls ages 8 to 18 that takes place during the same week as JIIFF, from January 18th to 24th.

Every afternoon we will meet to participate in an intensive lab for seven consecutive days. The proposal is to make a short film as a team built with different techniques, in which each member can occupy a creative place, according to their age and interests.

In a playful way and through experimentation, all different stages that make up the filmmaking process will be worked on: research, development, script writing, filming, editing, post-production and projection.

Students are guided throughout the entire process by permanent teachers specially selected by JIIFF based on their experience, their qualities of pedagogical transmission and bond with the children. In addition to the teachers, in ¡Corte! We'll receive visits from guests as workshop leaders for different instances and teaching areas such as production, photography, sound, special effects and more.

The workshop will be given in three groups: one for boys and girls ages 8 to 10; another for teenagers from 11 to 14 years old; and another for pre-university students from 15 to 18 years old. The three groups will work separately, but simultaneously.

At the end of the workshop, the short film made by the students will be premiered on the same screen where the films and short films programmed at the José Ignacio International Film Festival are programmed, in a special instance so that they can enjoy it with their families and guests.

WHEN January 18th to 24th

ACADEMIC PROPOSAL

We propose a workshop that awakens the passion for telling stories from a cinematographic perspective and at the same time teaches how to approach watching films with greater tools of appreciation.

The divisions of roles, the different stages of production, genres, narrative styles, shot values and basic notions of editing are specified.

The idea of the short will be inspired by the experiences and sensations of the participants. Experiences that may be ephemeral but that generate memories that accompany us and mark us for life. In this way we start with a talk where attendees suggest ideas for the short film based on their personal experiences, and then take them to fiction, contributing uses of the genre they want to capture.

The filming of the short will be carried out with the use of professional equipment that is usually used in current productions both locally and internationally.

We will work with division of roles but encouraging a climate of group creation that is typical of cinematographic art. Emphasis will be placed on the creative process, ensuring that each participant has an equal influence on the work, but the final result that will be presented at the festival will also be taken care of.

We focus as our main objective on a broad look at cinematographic art to feel it closer, more accessible and why not help the vocational development of future filmmakers who one day can screen their works at international festivals of the stature of which this workshop is a part.
