SYNOPSIS
A university professor (Wagner Moura) travels from São Paulo to the coastal city of Recife during carnival week, hoping to reunite with his son. He soon discovers that some neighbors have followed him and are spying on him in his new refuge, leaving him with no possible escape from the tentacles of corruption.

Kleber Mendonça Filho

BIOGRAPHY
Kleber Mendonça Filho, born in Recife, built a distinguished career as a critic and programmer before establishing himself as one of Brazil’s most renowned filmmakers. He made his feature debut with the documentary Crítico (2008). His first fiction film, Neighboring Sounds (2012), was selected for more than 100 festivals and chosen to represent Brazil at the Oscars, while Aquarius (2016) achieved worldwide recognition. In 2019, Bacurau, co-directed with Juliano Dornelles, won the Jury Prize at Cannes. His fifth feature, the documentary Pictures of Ghosts (2023), premiered in a Special Screening at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The Secret Agent premiered in the Official Competition of the 78th Cannes Film Festival. All of his fiction features premiered in Uruguay at José Ignacio International Film Festival.
